My impression of Grandpa Tim:
I always remember being a little intimidated by Grandpa. He was tall, and as a youngster I remember looking up at his Roman nose thinking how dignified and austere he looked. Life was a serious business for Grandpa – I can’t remember ever hearing him laugh. (Dad on the other hand had a great sense of humor and used to regale us with stories.) Anyway, Grandpa was a blacksmith, so I was told, and also an inventor of sorts. (Does this mean he invented sorts? What’s a sort?) One neighbor, Mr. Miller’s son who lived next to Grandpa to me years later how he used to be intrigued by the things Grandpa used to invent. One time he made an elevator-pulley by which he was able to transfer things out of his upstairs window to the ground below. (I guess it saved carrying things down the stairs.) As far as I know, Grandpa never patented any of the things he invented. Certainly none of his inventions made him rich. (More the pity!)
