The Hohulin’s in Europe
Through the work of Grandpa Ezra and Uncle Bob we can trace the Hohulin family back to Georg(e) Hohulin I, who was born on July 5, 1676 in Oberweil Berner, Switzerland.
So you thought our family was German. The second oldest Hohulin we know of was Georg(e) Hohulin II (July 26th 1713) who was born in either Switzerland or Germany.
The oldest Hohulin that we know for sure was born in Germany was Christian Hohulin (December 15, 1754)
So what nationality are we? Many years ago I call the Swiss Embassy in Chicago to find out how to research our family history in Switzerland I was promptly told that Hohulin is not a Swiss name. With the advent of the Internet I have spent many hours searching for the origin of the Hohulin name. I have even found a Russian website listing a Sergeant Hohulin who was a soldier in the Russian Army during World War II. Once on a business trip to California I was told by an immigrant from Ireland that there are still Hohulin’s livings in Ireland. Maybe we are Irish transplants who migrated to Switzerland to Germany and then to the United States. We will probably never know for sure. I’ve often wondered if we really know would we find a very intriguing or boring story. Well we should get back to the story that we do know.
Christian Hohulin’s brother Johann Jacob Hohulin was born on October 1st, 1757
Johann Jacob Hohulin had a son that he named Christian Hohulin who was born on December 26th, 1800.
Christian Hohulin was the father of Gottlieb Hohulin who was born on March 30th 1834.
Next stop America.
