Life history of Dorothy Hohulin
Eight child – Dorothy better known as “Dort” (Who teases all the grandchildren) was born Christmas morning December the 25, 1914 at our country home in Stevens County Morris, Minnesota.
It was 40 below zero. Dorothy’s coming spoiled our Christmas dinner of Roast Duck and homemade Ice Cream.
Dorothy a fun-loving jolly girl, afraid of nothing and into everything. With her parents she moved to Fort Scott, Kansas in 1921. She went to the West Plain school, riding Old Queen.
Dorothy repented young was baptized by Elder Jacob Edelman in the Apostolic Christian Church at Fort Scott, Kansas.
Dort did day work for “Miss Mary” and the O’Dell’s, went to town and worked for Calhoun’s and Dr. Reeds.
Moving to Peoria, Illinois March 3, 1932, had to get used to the “Big City Life” did day work until 1939 when Dorothy left her work in Peoria and went out to the country to the home of her brother Ezra and his six little motherless children. A lot of credit goes to Dorothy, she started the children on the right road of life, taking them to Sunday School, and teaching them the does and don’ts of life. Many a night until the stroke of twelve Dort was mending and scrubbing, doing for the children. “God who is the giver of all good things, will repay Dorothy for her kindness.”
After Ezra remarried, Dort came back to Peoria, worked at Letourneaus a short time. Dort had a serious operation, was in poor health for a number of years. Now she works at the East Bluff Laundry at 1205 E. Nebraska Avenue, Peoria, Illinois.
