This is a website to share History of the Hohulin Family
The Hohulin family came to America in the nineteenth century as did many other German families. The story of the Hohulin’s in America is not one of great political power or great wealth, but a story of a family whose greatest desire is to obey and honor God. Each generation has produced humble heroes.
What would cause someone to leave the country of their birth, travel to an unknown land, and start a new life? What would this person be like, what legacy would he leave for the generations to come? While we cannot sit and visit with Gottlieb Hohulin to pose these questions, we can gain insight to these questions by looking at the legacy which we have been left with and by looking at ourselves to see the influence of Gottlieb, Timotheus, Ezra, their wife’s and children have given us.
For some time, I have had a burning desire to document some of our family history. On various scraps of paper over the years I have collected family stories. With this website I thought this would be a good way to share these stories. Now a couple notes of caution.
First, I have recently begun to realize with the passing of Grandpa Ezra, Uncle Bob, Aunt Rose Marie, Uncle Fred, Uncle Dick and Aunt Alice, among others some of our family stories have started to evolve a little (many of those closest to the events are new rejoicing in heaven). My request would be if you know a given story on these webpages pages a little different, please do one of the following. If you were a 1st generation witness or hearer of the story, please feel free to correct the story. If you are a second-generation witness as I am of many of the stories, please share your version noting who you are to help us keep track of the writer.
Secondly, because this is a collection of stories written from the heart, by various family members please excuse any spelling and grammar mistakes.
BTW in a later section I will share why Gottlieb came to America.
Lastly, I must give credit to Ezra and Bob Hohulin for doing most of the difficult work, gathering our family history. All I had to do was organize the data and build upon their foundation. I was truly blessed to get to spend many hours with Grandpa Ezra and Uncle Bob while they told me story after story. In many ways both of these men replaced my Dad during very import times in my life. For this I am very grateful. I’m sure that I didn’t remember all these stories so please help me fill in the wonderful missing ones.
On the following webpages are stories that have been passed down about various family members. May these stories draw you closer to your heritage!
